Lesley Hymn (1929)

In the Lesley Year Book, 1924, we find the earliest record of a school song titled, the "Lesley Hymn" (1924). The song does not list an author for the music or the lyrics, but it does have notation with the text "St. Fidelis" written above the notation. "St. Fidelis" likely refers to a Hymn melody that the song is either based on or uses.

In the Lesleyan, 1929, we find the same song without musical notation where the lyrics are attributed to "Mrs. A. Lesley" and the music to Mr. Harry I. Tinkham. "Mrs. A. Lesley" likely refers to Edith Lesley's mother Rebecca Wilson (Cousens) Lesley.

How did we get from "Mrs. A. Lesley" to Rebecca Lesley?
"A. Lesley" is likely short for Alonzo Lesley, who was Edith Lesley's father. In the 1920s, it was not uncommon to address a married woman in writing using her husband's name.

Who was Mr. Harry I. Tinkham?
Mr. Harry I. Tinkham is identified as the conductor for the school orchestra (Lesley School, Lesleyan, 1929, p. 12).
