AP: "So you were allowed to teach even though you were married?"
DLF: "Yes."
AP: "And were there rules against teaching if you were pregnant?"
DLF: "There were. I think you had to stop, and I did soon after."
AP: "And did you go back to teaching?"
DLF: "No."
AP: "No? What did you do?"
DLF: "Stayed home, I was at home. I contemplated going back and substituting, but my children just didn't want me to. And I listened. They discouraged me because they said substitutes...the kids gave substitutes a hard time. That was really not the reason. I had looked into it and was about to accept a position and my mother got very ill and I couldn't take it because I was too preoccupied with her. And after that I never thought about it again. And women weren't as prevalent in the workforce when I was bringing up my children. I had very few friends who worked."
AP: "And some of the friends you had at Lesley, did they have similar experiences?"
DLF: "With teaching?"
AP: "Yeah, with teaching and then stopping."
DLF: "Some continued, and some worked in other fields."
